Review: The Morganville Vampires Series

Glass Houses Blurb:
Welcome to Morganville, Texas. Just don't stay out after dark.

College freshman Claire Danvers has had enough of her nightmarish dorm situation, where the popular girls never let her forget just where she ranks in the school's social scene: somewhere less than zero.

When Claire heads off-campus, the imposing old house where she finds a room may not be much better. Her new roommates don't show many signs of life. But they'll have Claire's back when the town's deepest secrets come crawling out, hungry for fresh blood.

The basis of this series is that vampires have created a living social experiment; they have created a town and are sharing it with humans. The vampires don't have to live in secret because the humans know about them, and humans can't tell outsiders about the vampires because there is strict surveillance of the postal services, internet servers and phone lines. The residents also can't leave Morganville because of magical barriers surrounding the town but if residents do somehow manage to escape they don't remember about the vampires because of a magical block put on their memory stopping them remembering anything about Morganville.

We start off Morganville Vampires in the first book (Glass Houses). We meet Claire as she is being bullied by queen bitch Monica who rules the University. Claire has to leave the dorms after Monica nearly kills her this is where we are introduced to Michael, Eve and of course Shane. At this stage Claire is an extremely nervous and shy girl. But at the end of the eighth book (Kiss Of Death) you see the change in her as she is a young woman and can take charge.

Perhaps it's because of the situations she has gotten into that's made her more grown up like; finding the book that Oliver(the 2nd most scariest vampire ever) has been searching for, meeting shane's dad (who is a very scary man and a vampire hunter), getting into a war with Bishop (the most scariest vampire ever), being contracted to Amelie, being taught by Myrnin who repeatedly goes crazy and comes very close to killing her many times and the first times she leaves Morganville she has to battle with crazed vampires with a disease.

I was quite disappointed that Myrnin wasn't in Kiss Of Death much because i love him and his vampire bunny slippers but it was quite good to see a different side to Oliver in the latest book.

I hope that Claire doesn't get turned into a computer which for everyone who's read these books will know what i mean. I wish Rachel Caine would just go mad and turn Claire, Eve and Shane into vamps although i know Shane would rather die. Eve on the other hand might because Michael's one and Claire thought about being one for a minute when Oliver suggested it.

Rachel Mead is an amazingly talented author and i can only hope that her books don't go off the rails like P.C Cast's Burned (just my opinion).
Caine manages to write superb villians and keeps up the edge of your seat drama that keeps the Morganville Vampires books fresh and thrilling.

This series is joint best i've ever read (along with Vampire Academy)! And i can't urge you enough to go out and get this series!
